Academic Challenge (AC)

Summary

To promote budding research that will lead to future innovation, we provide opportunities for students to confront academic research with their own ideas and to demonstrate their originality and flexibility.

The Academic Challenge (AC) is a research grant for graduate students enrolled at Kyushu University. The AC aims to help students acquire “research management” skills through a series of practical activities in which students plan their own research projects, obtain the necessary funds, and conduct actual research.

If adopted

  • You can receive up to 500,000 yen in grants per project!
  • QREC Facilities(meeting space and workshop) are available for meetings with team members, work, etc!
  • Mentoring is available from QREC faculty!
  • Students will have the opportunity to interact with students from different majors!

Eligibility for Application

  • Graduate students of Kyushu University, under 30 years old.
  • The application must be made by an individual.

Precautions

  • No more than one application will be accepted from the same laboratory. For this reason, you will be asked to submit a recommendation form as well as confirmation of approval from your faculty advisor.
  • Please refrain from applying for duplicate research themes with other research grants.

Call for Projects

  • Academic research related to one’s major.
  • Themes related to master’s thesis, doctoral dissertation, etc. are acceptable.

Subsidy amount

Up to 500,000 yen per case

  • It is paid in accordance with Kyushu University’s accounting rules. It is not a lump-sum cash payment.

Application Deadline

Examination

Based on the applications, an internal review will be conducted on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 to determine hiring priorities, and the highest priority will be selected first. The selection policy is as follows

  1. Consideration of research achievements
  2. Compatibility with QREC’s vision of “advanced research,” “practical application research,” and “incubation”
  3. Specificity of Research Plan Specificity of Research Plan

Remarks

  • The results presentation will be held in February or March, and a report on the research results will be submitted.
  • The following requirements (1) and (2) shall apply to those selected for this grant. If the requirements are not met, the grant amount may be requested to be returned.
  1. Must complete the QREC course “Advanced Lecture in Idea Evaluation”.
  2. If the above is not possible, students should take the QREC course “New Business Creation” or “Advanced Lecture in Research Skills Development (English)”.
