Summary

Kyusokai was established through a donation to the Kyushu University Robert Huang/Entrepreneurship Center (QREC) from President Tadanao Kagimoto, a graduate of the Kyushu University School of Medicine and founder of Helios, Inc. The purpose of the QREC is to support the development of human resources who will support the future of Japan through the organization of founders who graduated from Kyushu University.
The Kyusokai Scrape Fund Incentive Program is looking for students from Kyushu University who are aware of the current situation, recognize social issues that need to be resolved, and wish to solve social problems through social implementation through business with a constructive and critical spirit.

Support

  1. An incentive of 1,000,000 yen/year to 2,500,000 yen/year will be awarded. The amount will be determined by the applicant’s vision and activities.
  2. The incentive will be paid in two installments: the first installment will be paid in August, with an interim report on Thursday, December 12, 2024, and a second installment in January; a final report will be made on Tuesday, March 18, 2025.
  3. Since the incentive is considered income, grant recipients are required to file their own tax returns.
  4. Face-to-face and remote assistance by QREC faculty and Kyusokai members

Eligibility for Application

Students enrolled at Kyushu University (regardless of whether they are currently studying abroad, planning to study abroad, or on a leave of absence)

Student Profile for Incentive Grants

  • Students who have a deep awareness of the current situation and can think about it immersively from diverse perspectives.
  • Students who are aware of essential and major social issues that have yet to be resolved and have a strong desire to “do something about it! Students with a strong desire to “do something about it!
  • Students who can persistently work to solve social issues with a constructive and critical spirit, without being distracted by easy ideas or fads.
  • Students who are able to find colleagues who are willing to work with them to solve problems that they cannot handle on their own, and who are able to solve problems through collaboration.
  • Students who have a strong desire to grow as human beings and to achieve scrape through the activities of this fund.

Selection Method and Schedule

  1. first round (of selection)
    Selection will be based on the information provided in the application form. Selection results will be notified by email no later than Wednesday, June 19, 2024.
  2. Second round of selection
    Selections will be made between Monday, June 24 and Friday, June 28, 2024, through individual online hearings and other means.
    Selection results will be notified via email by Wednesday, July 10, 2024.
  3. Final selection (interview)
    Monday, July 22, at the ToP, 7th floor, Center #5, Ito Campus. Selection results will be notified by e-mail by Monday, August 5, 2024.

Application Guidelines

Activities required

  • Verbalize your awareness of your problem and define the social issue you want to solve.
  • Devise solutions to problems with broad and free thinking, without being bound by trends or existing frameworks
  • Repeatedly test hypotheses (i.e., take action) on the solutions we devise, ultimately aiming for social implementation through commercialization.
  • Engage in dialogue with a diverse range of people, including the mentors of the Kuusokai, to ensure the continuity of activities while gaining their endorsement and concrete cooperation.
  • In the activities of the Fund, when taking new initiatives that are not bound by existing frameworks, we must allow for mistakes that can be reversed, even if they appear to be a change of direction or a return to the drawing board, and recognize them as a step forward when viewed from a bird’s eye view.

Activity Schedule

The activity period shall be from August 2024 to March 2025.
Each activity will be reported in an interim report on Thursday, December 12, 2024 from 13:00 to 15:00 and in a final report on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 from 15:00 to 17:00.
Mentoring by a mentor will be provided during this time as appropriate.
Annual party is being coordinated for March 2025.

Kyusokai Fellowship

While providing scholarships that give students the freedom to work on ways to solve social problems that need to be solved, the Kyusokai also organizes the Kyusokai Fellowship. The KuSokai Fellowship is an alumni association of KuSokai Fellows. It connects fellows beyond the time of their adoption and helps them connect with the necessary contacts and resources in Japan and abroad through mentors and university networks.

It is a badge of honor for the Fellows to be a member of the Kyusokai Fellowship, which recognizes essential and major social issues and persistently seeks solutions to social problems using business forms with a constructive and critical spirit, without being distracted by easy ideas or fads.
