Frequently Asked Questions

Subjects

What are QREC subjects?

Courses that can be taken for credit as regular courses and are offered or recommended by QREC, and can be taken as a minor by students throughout the university. Students from all faculties and grades can take these courses together, which are different from the core education and specialized courses. QREC’s educational program aims to “encourage all Kyushu University students to think and act with entrepreneurship,” and is characterized by its many student-participatory classes that are conducted not only through classroom lectures but also through workshops. For details, please refer to the Features and Curriculum.

I want to take a course, but I don’t know when and where to register.

There are two registration periods: one for courses that conform to the schedule for core education courses, and the other for courses that are open at any time. For information on the status of registration for QREC courses, please refer to “Registration and Flow of Courses”.

I have registered for a course, but it is not reflected in campusmate.

Please note that courses registered through the QREC website (Google Forms) cannot be confirmed on the student portal system immediately after registration. They will be reflected in the student portal system (Campusmate-J) after the cancellation period.

I would like to attend as an auditing student.

If you wish to attend lectures without receiving credit, please notify the instructor in charge of each subject or staff★qrec.kyushu-u.ac.jp.

What level of English is required for English courses?

If you can speak everyday English, you should be able to take the course without any problems. An attitude of trying to communicate is more important than accurate English.

I would like to cancel my enrollment, is it possible?

For courses that are compliant with the period specified by the Core Education Academic Affairs Division, please apply directly to the Academic Affairs Division in the prescribed manner during the course discontinuation period. (Only elective or required elective courses are accepted.)

For intensive courses that are offered at any time, students must apply for course cancellation during the cancellation period designated by QREC prior to the start of the lecture. (Course cancellations will not be accepted after the cancellation period.)

You can also check the cancellation period etc. from the course registration/flow page.

Procedures for Public Absences

After applying to the Educational Records and Programs Section and receiving the Confirmation of Absence form, please send it to your instructor or to staff★qrec.kyushu-u.ac.jp. The form will be handed to the faculty member in charge.

I am a graduate student. If I take QREC courses, how will my credits be handled?

There are 10 QREC courses offered each year as graduate core education and development courses.

For details, please refer to the Graduate School Core Education Courses (Course List ).

The handling of credits is described in the Graduate School’s Core Education Courses (Handling of Credits).

Other QREC subjects (General courses, uSenior year core education courses) may be taken, but they will not be included in the credits toward graduation requirements. Also, since the handling of credits differs depending on the institution to which you belong, please contact the academic affairs department of each graduate school.

About S.I.P.

I’m not sure if I can (or should) apply with this kind of idea.

Any idea is fine as long as it’s your original idea! If you have any concerns, QREC staff will be available to assist you at the office on weekdays. QREC faculty members will be available at Open House, so please feel free to come and talk to us.

Is it possible to apply for both Challenge & Creation (C&C) and Academic Challenge (AC)?

The system allows for acceptance of applications. However, the purpose and review items for each project are different, so please make sure that your application is correct.

AC: Individuals are eligible. Master’s and doctoral research only. Applications from the same laboratory are possible, but only one applicant can be adopted (signature of the supervising professor is required). The review method is documentary review only. Review items include evaluation of academic progress (same as for Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research), affinity with QREC (contribution to industrial practical application), etc.

*There must be no other research and development funding available because the purpose of the program is to provide practical education in research project management.

C&C: Any undergraduate, master’s or doctoral program. Master’s and doctoral research are not eligible. It is acceptable to apply as a team.

The screening method is by external evaluation committee members. The three main items to be reviewed are originality, specificity, and impact.

Is it possible to apply for Challenge & Creation (C&C) or Academic Challenge (AC) and also apply for Idea Battle?

Challenge & Creation (C&C), Academic Challenge (AC), and other grant recipients are not eligible (not eligible) to apply for the Idea Battle.

However, ideas that were submitted but not accepted are welcome. Please note that the themes of thesis, dissertation, and thesis are excluded from the review process for the Idea Battle.

Regarding the Academic Challenge, although I am an undergraduate student, I would like to apply. Is it possible?

Applicants for the Academic Challenge must be current graduate students of Kyushu University under the age of 30. Undergraduate students are not eligible to apply.

Is it possible to apply for S.I.P. as a team with other university students and working adults?

The main body of the project must be solely the students of Kyushu University. On top of that, participation of other university students and working adults is acceptable as long as they do not exceed the majority of the team members.

However, the budget may only be used by Kyushu University students. (Expenditures are not allowed for business trip expenses, etc. for other universities or working people. In the case of goods, purchase and sharing of goods is allowed.)

Regarding the use of facilities, QREC facilities may not be used by outside members only. It is acceptable to use the facilities if you are with a Kyushu University student. Registration is required when using the facilities. Please follow the prescribed procedures.

For more information, please refer to the C&C Application Guidelines.
